Can you operate a simple radio? If so, Blind and Partially Sighted radio enthusiasts would love to meet you for a chat, a cup of tea but more importantly a demonstration of a specially modified radio for the Blind supplied to them by The British Wireless for the Blind Fund and delivered by your good self!
As a Delivery Driver / Demonstrator you should enjoy communicating to people and have some interest in music and radios. This worthwhile role will be varied and would suit someone who can drive and demonstrates patience and a willingness to help. Although the equipment is designed to be easy to use with colour contrasting controls and tactile markings, the controls need explaining clearly to the Visually Impaired person
Own vehicle or access to a vehicle
Will require a criminal record check (DBS)
Talking to others
The British Wireless for the Blind Fund are looking for people to visit blind and partially sighted people in their homes across North Devon to install their new radios and teach them how to use them as well as providing on-going support where needed. Volunteers don't have to be rocket scientists as the radios are just like the ones they have at home but they do need to be mobile and have a friendly disposition. The voluntary position is open to anyone aged over 18 who have access to transport and all travelling including petrol expenses are paid.
