Heads Up is a local charity which helps individuals from across Mendip affected by mental health issues, including dementia and other difficulties, towards recovery, increased independence, greater wellbeing and quality of life. The services and activities offered by the organisation include social and therapeutic horticulture, pottery, woodcraft, arts and crafts, dementia and social groups, as well as complementary therapies and counselling.
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the following activities:-
Arts & Crafts: To assist the Tutor by helping and supporting clients with mental health issues with their arts & crafts activities, e.g. various styles of painting, printing, collage, pastel work and many more activities.
Fund Raising: Assisting in fundraising for Heads Up by making crafts and other items of a saleable standard and/or supporting fundraising events. Also required are ideas regarding saleable goods and/or a relevant skill, e.g. marketing.
Gardening: To assist the Tutor by working alongside clients with mental health issues to help maintain the Heads Up Healing Garden and other community garden and outdoor settings in the local area.
Memories: To work alongside clients with dementia, supporting individuals to become involved in as many activities during the staffed workshops as they want to or are able to do.
Pottery: To assist the Tutor by supporting clients with mental health issues with pottery activities and with other related tasks - loading and unloading the kiln etc.
Woodworking: To assist the Tutor by working alongside clients with mental health issues to help and support them with their individual projects.
From Wells Town Centre, approximately one and a half mile walk up Bath Road. Bus 173 stops at South Horrington, approximately 200 yards walk up Upper Breach.
Training opportunities are also available.
Will require a criminal record check (DBS)
Talking to others
We are looking for volunteers who have good communication skills, especially active listening skills and a calm manner. We need volunteers who are able to work within organisational policies and guidelines and respect and adhere to work boundaries that are in place for everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
