About Us: We are a new charity, established in January 2018, whose main aim is to restore and enhance the streams, rivers and ponds in and around Yeovil. We also promote the use of high quality constructed sustainable drainage features, e.g. ponds and wetlands, associated with new development and surface water management. Another key aim of the Trust is to assist in the long-term sustainability of these waterbodies through effective management and monitoring in order to ensure lasting benefits are delivered for the community and the environment.

We have a strong focus on community involvement at every level as well as working with landowners, organisations, charities, businesses and other partners to ensure that projects produce the best possible outcomes for the environment, people and wildlife. We firmly believe that social and economic sustainability and well-being can only be achieved through ensuring the environment is protected, nurtured and respected. The trust works to achieve this goal with the aim of providing a high quality urban environment for communities to enjoy in the here-and-now as well as enhanced sustainability for generations to come.

We meet monthly at Westlands Leisure Centre and we are looking for volunteers who enjoy working outdoors to help us with various restoration projects in the Yeovil area. Please see our website www.yrct.co.uk for more information.

Organisation Description

The objects of the YRCT are:

To promote for the benefit of the public both locally in Yeovil and the wider public within Somerset and Dorset, the conservation protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by promoting and maintaining biological diversity, notably, but not exclusively, in the restoration, enhancement and creation of watercourses and any other water features and their adjoining terrestrial areas. Maintaining biological diversity includes managing and monitoring relevant habitats for the mutual benefit of biodiversity and the public.

To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment.

To promote sustainable development for the benefit of the public both locally in Yeovil and the wider public within Somerset and Dorset, by:
(a) the preservation, conservation and the protection of the environment and the prudent use of resources;
(b) the promotion of sustainable means of achieving economic growth and regeneration.

To advance the education of the local and general public in subjects relating to sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment and to promote study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the public at large.

Sustainable development means “development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”
