|Name:||Wincanton Child Contact Centre Volunteer|
|Organisation:||Somerset Child Contact Centre|
|Location:||The Balsam Centre, Balsam Park, Wincanton, Somerset, BA9 9HB|
The volunteer will assist the manager with contact sessions. The role could include:
Making tea, serving in small tuck shop.
Seeing people in at door, checking clients into register.
Observing contact to ensure safety at all times.
Playing with child for "short bursts" if required to help settle child
Answer client queries or directing them to the manager
Handing child between parents without parents meeting each other (systems in place for this) Taking session fees from clients and issuing receipt.
A session can involve doing not much at all except observation, but this is crucial to the safe running of the service.
Our sessions are two Saturdays a month between 10:00 - 12:00. Volunteers normally work as and when it suits them.
We provide a safe neutral place for contact for families where they can't find any other viable alternative for contact. It is often families going through the court and experiencing high levels of hostility/problems.
Ability to be impartial and not become involved in the families' difficulties.
Showing warmth and understanding to the family's situation without passing comment or opinion.
