We are looking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees who can provide leadership to the Board and support for the Chief Executive.

The Chair’s role is to enable the Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the organisation.

Our new Chair will have experience of governance and strategic leadership, a flair for relationship management and be forthright in their commitment to our values and development objectives.

We are also keen to recruit a Vice Chair. This is a new position on our Board and aims to provide support and assistance to the Chair, CEO and Board. The Vice Chair will deputise for the Chair and will have lead responsibility for the annual appraisal of the Chair of Trustees on behalf of the Board.

An informal information event for prospective applicants will be held on 22nd August from 5.00pm in our Yeovil offices. Interviews will take place on 3rd September 2019.

Organisation Description

Citizens Advice South Somerset is an independent advice charity providing free, confidential and impartial information, support and advice for anyone who needs it. Our vision is to deliver excellence in prevention and advice services, helping clients prepare for and manage key life events and changes. Our services benefit the whole community and our goal is to reduce poverty, disadvantage and discrimination, improving independence, prosperity and wellbeing.

Volunteers are the life force of our organisation and without them we would not be able to deliver the level of service that we offer. Currently volunteer advisers help over 120 clients a week and we want to expand our team in order to bring help to even more local people.

Requirements

Chair’s Responsibilities include:

Ensuring that the Charity achieves maximum impact for its beneficiaries

Representing the organisation in an ambassadorial role to assist our CEO in building positive relationships with our stakeholders

Managing timely and effective governance processes where the Board has oversight and control of all the organisation’s business (financial affairs, growth opportunities, partnerships, etc)

Maintaining regular contact with the CEO between Board meetings and undertaking the CEO’s annual appraisal
